History & overview
The Faculty of Agriculture and Plantation Management (FAPM) was established in 1st October 1999, when the Wayamba Campus of the Rajarata University was elevated as the thirteenth national University of Sri Lanka as the Wayamba University. Then Faculty of Agricultural Sciences originally belonged to the Wayamba Campus evolved as the Faculty of Agriculture and Plantation Management and established on 25 acres of land at the former In-service Training Institute of the Department of Agriculture, at Makandura, in a rural agricultural setting bordering Negombo-Kurunegala (B 308) road.
The FAPM offers the B.Sc. (Agriculture) degree programme which is of four years duration. The current intake of students for this programme is 150. From 2014, a revised curriculum of the B.Sc. (Agriculture) is adopted to accommodate the new developments in the job market and students have the option of selecting seven specialized areas in four departments: Plantation Management, Horticulture and Landscape Gardening, Agribusiness Management and Biotechnology. The research project and the in-plant training, each of one- semester duration included in the curriculum provide an advantageous position for the graduates in the job market. The faculty also offers an external degree programme of three years duration i.e. B.Sc. (Plantation Management). This is a unique programme designed to fulfill the needs of the professionals in the plantation sector.

Develop innovative, skilled, trained manpower and their capabilities in Agriculture to fulfill national and global needs through undergraduate and postgraduate education, research, and outreach programmes.
DABM was established on 1996 as an academic department in the FAPM with the intention of providing a quality education, capable of meeting the career aspirations of graduates and the needs of the local employers.
With the rapid economic advancement, the country needs graduates with sound theoretical and practical knowledge and also with rigorous technical skills in environmental and biological systems.
DPM is to provide the graduate with scientific knowledge and practical know-how in agronomic and manufacturing processes in plantation agriculture and inculcate managerial skills and confidence in decision making with respect to resource allocation in plantations.
